The Church of God in Nigeria has suffered much in the past few years. Many lives have been lost. Many have lost their life's savings. Several people have been displaced from their homes and missionary stations. Many churches have been destroyed. It is said that most of the well over 200 girls that were kidnapped in Chibok in Bornu State are Christians.
Just recently, an attempt was made on Sunday, 15th June 2014 to bomb the Living Faith Church, AKA Winners' Chapel, Owerri where about 10,000 Christians worship. Few hours after this failed attempt, 486 suspected Boko Haram members from many states of the north in 33 buses were arrested by soldiers at about 3 a.m. in Abia State on their way to Port Harcourt. It is said that a Boko Haram terror kingpin who is on the wanted list of security forces in Nigeria is one of those arrested. Before now, Boko Haram was a thing of the North but the story is different today. The problems of kidnapping in the south, armed robbery and other vices have made life very unbearable for many.

THOT: The pains Nigeria is going through today can be everted if only we turn to God for help. Only God can protect us.

At a time like this, the prophecy of Habakkuk is very relevant. In the book of Habakkuk 1:13 we read, "Thou art of purer eyes than to behold evil, and canst not look on iniquity: wherefore lookest thou upon them that deal treacherously, and holdest thy tongue when the wicked devoureth the man that is more righteous than he?" Habakkuk could not understand why God will allow the wicked to punish those more righteous than them.  This is what is happening to us in Nigeria today. Youths that are suppose to be a blessing to the nation have become a pain. They have taken up arms against the very parents, elders, guardians and even their very close relations they are suppose to protect, provide for and assist.

THOT: Israel sinned and God used an ungodly nation to punish her. The only way to getting out of the mess and pains they were going through was to repent. The Nigeria Church need to repent, ask God to show mercy and get restored back to Him.

The need to contend for the faith handed over to us is most important today. Jude, the brother of our Lord Jesus Christ, made this point very clear in the 3rd verse of his book where he said: "Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints." Despite the attacks, persecutions, trials and temptations Christians face today, God expects us to remain faithful to Him. We need to defend the faith. The only way we can remain faithful to Him, despite these challenges, is to contend for the faith that was once delivered unto us.

THOT: Put on the whole amour of Christ. Do not give up your faith. Remember that only those who endures to the end shall be saved.

We need to ask God to visit us with His mercy in Nigeria so that the purpose for which God has set up this country will be achieved.
