RELATING WITH GOD IN 2014
Time is one gift from God that is shared out equally. The president of Nigeria, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, the Governor of Edo State, Comrade Aliu Oshiomole, the Pastor in a village Church and that of a very busy Church, the petty trader in the market and the business man that owns several business outfits, the researcher and undergraduate, the professor and the student, the administrator and the clerk and of course the beggar on the street all have twenty four hours each day. You cannot increase or reduce your time.
As you think of how to use the great gift of 2014 from God, I would want to share three valuable ways with you. The first one is on your relationship with God. Let us start by evaluating the year 2013. In the year 2013, how did you relate with God? How much time did you spend listening to Him? How was your study of God’s Word in the last year? Were you able to pray without ceasing as admonished by Paul in 1 Thess. 5:17? How serious was your relationship with God last year?
For you to succeed in this year 2014, I want to admonish you to draw close to God. Read your Bible daily. Decide to go through the Bible this year using the Reading Plan done by the Chapel or use any other Bible reading material. The Word of God is food for your soul. Do not go hungry ofHis Word this year. Hebrews 4:12 says, "For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any double-edged sword, piercing even to the point of dividing soul from spirit, and joints from marrow; it is able to judge the desires and thoughts of the heart."
To make valuable use of the year 2014, you need to be a man/woman of prayer. Develop the habit of talking to God and hearing from Him all the time. Let God speak to you through His Word and through other means (like dreams, visions, word of knowledge, word of wisdom, prophesy, etc) which He has used to speak to you in the past. Let your goal for this year be to please Him that has enlisted you. Be encouraged by these words of Paul in 2 Timothy 2:4 "No soldier gets entangled in civilian pursuits, since his aim is to please the one who enlisted him."
My prayers for you is that God will make you a man/woman of prayer and a man/woman of the word this year in Jesus name.
Next week we shall look at having a valuable year through relating with other Christians.
