A- A A+

Meditation _ July 9, 2017

Nigeria is in dire need of leaders who will have the interest of Nigerians as their priority. She is in need of leaders that will take decisions that will impart positively on the people they are leading. She is in need of leaders that will represent her in the different places they are. Nigerians are the only ones that can build Nigeria. Foreigners are here to take care of themselves, their families and their nations. The earlier our lawmakers have the interest of Nigeria on top of their priority, the better for all of us.

According to Governor Ortom of Benue State, Fulani herdsmen have killed 1,878 people, critically injured 750 persons, 200 people missing and over 99,427 households destroyed.  According to him, property worth 95 billion naira was destroyed across 10 local government areas by these same evil herdsmen in 2004 alone. The most shocking thing is that there have been no records of prosecution in form of arrests, no one was sentenced to prison, etc.  The southern Kaduna massacre of hundreds of Christians is still very fresh in our mind.

Let's not go too far. Edo State has suffered a great deal in the hands of these evil herdsmen. Our leaders and well placed people in the society have connived with them to gradually take over our ancestral lands from us. The cows you see around are male cows sent down to achieve their evil agenda. It is shocking to note that many of these cows are owned by highly placed people in our state. In this state, several people have been killed, women raped, farm products destroyed and in one occasion cows entered pupils’ classrooms freely while the pupils left the classroom for the cows. The story was told of an Edo State man who was wooed to come and farm in the state. After investing millions of naira in his farm, mentored several youths, the farm became a great blessings to many people. These evil herdsmen came into the farm with their cattle, destroyed it, killed a worker and injured some others. When the man reported to the police, he was arrested and detained for two days. The irony of it all is that those that committed these havocs were left to go free. No wonder these evil herdsmen have continued in their wicked activities because the government of the day is supporting and protecting them from being prosecuted.

The Edo State House of Assembly had a public hearing on a grazing bill that has passed two readings. We thank God for the response. Jesus told us the need to watch and pray. In addition to this, we need to act in wisdom according to his Word. I agree with this saying that “The Price that honest men pay for keeping quiet is to be ruled by dishonest men.” Every Christian should arm himself or herself with voters card. This is the only way, we can put God fearing and honest men in the position of authority.

At times I ask my self this question: How did we get to where we are today in Nigerian? The answer; to me is in Matthew 13:24-25, which says ‘…“The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a man who sowed good seed in his field, but while his men were sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat and went away.”’ We have slept enough. Let us awake to our responsibilities as Christians. Let every man/woman occupy till He comes. Let the work of evangelism be increased and done efficiently. These evil herdsmen need Christ. Let's work at preaching to them and getting them converted. Let those that are blessed with political governance not shy away from their calling. The Lord will send help to all in Jesus name.

Lastly, beloved of Christ, let us be challenged by these words of Jude 1:3b “I found it necessary to write appealing to you to contend for the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints.” Beloved let us contend for this faith. It's worth it.
