Today is Trinity Sunday. We shall look at the word Trinity as explained in the Scriptures. Let us look from the following passages of the Bible:
· IN THE CREATION OF THE WORLD
GOD THE FATHER
God created the heavens and the earth. In Genesis 1:1 we are told "In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth."
GOD THE SON-JESUS CHRIST
All things were created by Him and for Him.
Colossians 1:16 "For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him."
GOD THE HOLY SPIRIT
In Genesis 1:2, after the creation of the heavens and the earth, God the Holy Spirit was hovering over what God created. He was thinking, as it were, what will He do with what He has created.
Gen 1:2 says "The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters."
Hear what God says in Genesis 3:22a after the fall of man. 'Then the Lord God said, “Behold, the man has become like one of us in knowing good and evil."'
God use plural to describe the Trinity in this passage.
· BUILDING OF THE TOWER OF BABEL
Man decided to build a tower that will reach heaven. In Genesis 11:7 God said "Come, let us go down and there confuse their language, so that they may not understand one another's speech.”
· CREATION IN THE BEGINNING AS RECORDED BY JOHN
Carefully read John 1:1-3 "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made."
You will notice that Jesus was actively involved in the creation of all things.
· AT JESUS BAPTISM, THE TRINITY WAS PRESENT
Carefully read Matthew 3:16-17 'And when Jesus was baptized, immediately he went up from the water, and behold, the heavens were opened to him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming to rest on him; and behold, a voice from heaven said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.”'
GOD THE FATHER SPOKE “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.”'
GOD THE SON WAS BEING BAPTIZED PHYSICALLY "...when Jesus was baptized, immediately he went up from the water, and behold, the heavens were opened to him..."
GOD THE HOLY SPIRIT DESCENDED AS A DOVE ON JESUS "...he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming to rest on him..."
There are several other examples. Let us stop at these. May God give you understanding in Jesus name. Amen
